Great Alaska Schools is a grassroots, volunteer-led voice for public education in Alaska.

Great Alaska Schools is a grassroots, volunteer-led, non-partisan network of parents, students, community members, educators, and business people. Providing a great public education for all Alaska children transcends any political label or division.

Originally founded in 2004 as Alaska Kids Count!, we are a network of Alaskans who have come together to advocate for public education. We aim to be reflective of the state of Alaska geographically and demographically; however, we are not an elected body. While our goal is to help all students succeed, we recognize that we do not speak for all students and families.

Our core team of volunteer advocates live throughout the state and pool our energy in the fight for adequate funding for public schools. Our members live in Juneau, Homer, the Kenai Peninsula, Fairbanks, Anchorage, the Mat-Su, Bristol Bay and beyond.

We hold in common the foundational belief that we depend on, and will fight for, the public schools that educate our children, keep them safe, provide pathways to opportunity, and serve and support our families, communities, and a robust Alaskan economy.

Great Alaska Schools lets busy parents and other community members know how they can advocate for Alaska’s schools.

Please sign up to receive our email action alerts. We do not rent or share our list and you can unsubscribe any time.

Would you like to be more involved in the fight for public education in Alaska?

We’d love to have you on our team.

No matter where you may be in the state, there are lots of ways to get involved, like calling or emailing policy makers, writing letters to the editor, testifying at hearings, reaching out to others in your community, or joining our core group of organizers.
